Downstairs Areas
The living room, the bar, and the home theater: one open level, all facing the water.
Downstairs is one open, easy level: the living room, the bar, and the home theater all flow into one another and out to the sunroom, so nobody is ever far from the water or from each other.
The living room
A genuinely efficient gas fireplace for the off-season, and a huge UV-filtering picture window over the couch that looks straight out on the Mystic River. It is the easy middle of the house: close enough to the kitchen to stay in the conversation, comfortable enough to lose an afternoon in.
The bar
The bar was built by the owner, inlaid with fossils, and looks out through the sunroom to the river, good for dining, reading, or working. At night it is underlit in color with tomorrow's NOAA weather forecast: blue for clear, green for maybe, red for rain. There is a whole build story behind it on the Built by Hand page.
The home theater
A proper screen and surround sound for movie nights, with streaming set up and ready, plus a small office corner with a desk for when someone has to pretend to work.
