My grandparents built 26 Schoolhouse Road in 1946, and our family has rented it to guests ever since. The house sits at the water’s edge on Mason’s Island: a wildlife estuary at the back, the Mystic River out front, and a sunset over the water most evenings. Downtown Mystic is a mile and a half away and I-95 is four miles, but you will mostly hear osprey.

How booking works

No instant-book and no algorithm. We personally review every reservation request, because we are the people who own the house.

  1. You ask

Send us your dates. We answer every inquiry ourselves, usually within a day, and tell you plainly whether the week is free.

  2. We confirm

You sign a rental contract electronically. The first payment and the refundable damage deposit are due seven days later; the balance is due thirty days before you arrive.

  3. You arrive

Pay by card, or by check for a 3% discount. Connecticut room occupancy tax is quoted separately, never buried. The damage deposit is returned within fourteen days of check-out.

Cancellations: bookings are non-refundable, but if we can re-rent your week we refund on a pro-rated basis, and the damage deposit is always returned in full. We recommend travel insurance. Read the full contract before you inquire, not after.

Frequently asked questions

How long are stays, and what days do they run?

Stays are weekly with a Saturday changeover: you arrive on a Saturday and depart the following Saturday. For anything shorter or longer, ask us; we are the owners and we can be flexible outside peak weeks.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM, which gives the house a proper cleaning between guests. If you need different times, ask ahead and we will say yes when the calendar allows.

How many people can stay?

The house sleeps 7, and only the people on your reservation stay overnight. Daytime visitors are welcome for a quiet gathering until 10:00 PM; parties and events are not permitted.

Can we bring our dog?

Often, yes: pets are welcome with our prior approval and a signed pet addendum. Tell us about your dog when you inquire. There is a fenced pet area on the waterfront; pets stay off the furniture.

Can we use the dock?

Yes: sitting, fishing, and launching kayaks or other non-motorized boats (check with us first). No jet skis or motorized watercraft. Children and non-swimmers need adult supervision on the waterfront: this is real shoreline, not a pool deck.

What is provided?

The house is fully furnished, with linens, towels, a completely equipped kitchen, the grill, and wifi. Your pre-arrival email carries the practical details, and the guest area of this site opens to you before your stay.

Is smoking allowed?

No. Smoking and vaping are prohibited inside and anywhere on the property, as are candles, incense, and open flames outside the grill.
